How to drill 40-50mm holes through cast iron?
I’m attempting to drill (or bore) some holes into some cast iron in order to insert round steel tubes for a project. They will need to be approximately 40-50mm (depending on the pipe OD) and will be about 100mm deep. I know it would be best to use a mill (I don’t have) however I was hoping to do this at home with using the pedestal drill. What would be the best method, and tool(s) to use or will I have to farm it out to someone else? Where can I buy the tools online?

Thanks for that.
I should have clarified it is not through solid cast iron but rather through a cylinder head which has water jackets (ie air pockets). The most soild sections would be 25-30mm or just over an inch. Experimenting with downdrafting the cylinder head to improve flow figure from the original casting and port lacation.
I don’t know mm but I think its around a 2inch hole your drilling and if your going through solid material then you needind 40 I would say take it to someone with the right tools. What you need to do would be almost impossible at home with normal tools
