Inserting RAM-modules, am I supposed to just use brute force?
I’m putting together my first computer, and have hit a small snag with the RAM-moudules (DIMM?)… I’ve oriented them the right way in the socket, am I supposed to just use brute force and push them down until the locking-pins on the socket snaps into the grooves, or is there a special technique? Don’t I risk breaking them? How much force must I use? Is there a best way to hold them?
-Confused and afriad to break something…
Look at the edges of the socket connector. You should notice one side is sort of beveled back. Insert the DIMM against that edge and sort of “roll” it in while pressing down, using something flat and hard laid across the top of the DIMM to spread the force evenly. Then make sure the little things pop into place at each end of the DIMM.
There should be similar instructions with your Motherboard Manual.
