Tumescent Liposuction begins with the physician injecting a large dose of liquid (made up of lidocaine, a local anesthetic, and epinephrine, which helps to shrink blood vessels) into the fatty tissue of the area to be treated. This fluid causes the area to become firm and swollen (tumescent) and allows the physician to extract fat more accurately and uniformly, producing smoother results.
Once the area is numb, tiny incisions are made in the skin and a small laser fiber is inserted into those areas to liquefy the unwanted fat. A thin tube (micro-cannula) is then inserted to remove the liquefied fat with the assistance of a high pressure vacuum. Depending on the size of the area treated, the procedure is completed within 1 to 3 hours, while the client is totally awake and relaxed.
