Exhaust Cylinder

if the cylinder heads could go on backwards would it throw off the alignment of the exhaust headers ?
the cylinder heads are on but the alignment of the exhaust headers is off a quarter of an inch i have been fighting this for two days and the only things that i have come up with to remedy this problem is to drill out the headers an eighth inch on each hole would this work?
Loosen the bolts that hold the exhaust to the headers and give yourself some more adjustment,
