My 20 gauge shotgun is 18.5 inches. Can i cut the barrel down?

If I add a pistol grip and cut the barrel down will that make it illegal? I’ve seen some shotgun that now have <18 inches barrel fromt he factory and they are sold legal from the company. I think they are call shorty shotgun. If they can do it why can't I? thanks

It cant get any shorter without you having to pay the 200 dollar tax for making an NFA firearm.

The barrel cant be any shorter than 18.5 inches and the entire gun cant be shorter than 26 inches.
