Polyatomic Ions & their charges ending in -ide? What is the McK Formula ?
First, What is the Mc K formula? my worksheet says OHNOSOCOPO is the Mc K rule, but what does that stand for? Also, most importantly:
I know there are charts that have formulas like saying NH4+ is ammonium, but no charts seem to have formulas for Polyatomic ions ending in -ide like Carbide, phosphide,Nitride,sulphide, Chloride, and Oxide. Where is a formula or chart to figure out the names of ions ending in -ide , specifically the ones mentioned above for high school chemistry level .Also wahat is the McK rule in chemistry?
No figuring them out, you could use oxidization numbers, but can be tricky.
You just have to know them, and usually they are all the same for a given atom,
Chloride is Cl(-1), and likewise other chlorine polyatomic ions are usually -1.
Carbide is C(-4)
Nitride is N(-3)
sulfide is S(-2)
phosphide P(-3)
oxide O(-2)
